Pakistan will go to India to play in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, which is set to start in Ahmedabad on October 5. The Blue Shirts and the Men in Green haven’t played a bilateral game in years, and this will be the first time that most of the visiting team plays in the country next door.
Which Pakistani World Cup players played in India?
Due to their bad relationship, the Indian government has not yet given visas to the Pakistani team, even though the big event starts in just a few days. Since 2012-13, Pakistan and India haven’t played any kind of bilateral game against each other. The last time Pakistan went to India, they played the ODI and T20I series. In 2007, the two biggest foes played a Test match against each other. Only Mohammad Nawaz and Salman Ali Agha have ever played cricket in India.
In 2016, Nawaz went to the country for the ICC World Twenty20, but he couldn’t play in any of the games. Agha did not play for Pakistan, but he did play in an Indian league match. He played for the Lahore Lions. The hitter only took the field once, against the Dolphins. In three balls, he got one run.
The rest of the team has never played in India, so it will be interesting to see how the Pakistani team does in the country next door, where their fans are less likely to be there in large numbers to cheer them on.
The current Pakistani squad consists of:
Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan, Abdullah Shafiq, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), M Wasim Jnr, Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usama Mir.
