Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s ace javelin thrower, visited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday to receive a Rs2.5 million cash prize for his historic World Athletics Championship 2023 silver medal.
PM Shehbaz awarded Arshad Nadeem Rs2.5 million. The prime minister stated the country has great sporting talent that has to be developed. Also, he stressed the need for rural sports promotion.
Nadeem told the premier about his sporting endeavors. The athlete began his career in 2012 and competed in the Youth Festival, then represented Pakistan in numerous world events. He said his conversation with the prime minister was productive and highlighted sports promotion efforts.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Romeena Khurshid Alam MNA, and Punjab Assembly member Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan attended the meeting. On August 28, 2023, the great javelin thrower became the first Pakistani to win a medal at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary, with his best 87.82-meter throw.
His best throw of 88.17 meters won the gold for India’s Neeraj Chopra. Later in October last year, Nadeem’s knee injury forced him out of the Asian Games, ending the country’s medal chances.
In December 2022, the javelin ace had successful elbow surgery in London. After knee surgery in the UK, the athlete resumed training earlier in the month to represent the country at the Paris 2024 Olympics in July.
