Haris was particularly lethal in the penultimate over, dismissing Liam Dawson and Olly Stone on consecutive deliveries. Pakistan didn’t have a particularly impressive performance, but they rallied behind each other in the last moments to win. Dawson blasted Haris for a boundary off the second delivery of the exhilarating 19th over, bringing England within five runs of a win after smashing 24 runs off the previous over from Mohammad Hasnain.
Haris got Pakistan back into the game with a bouncer that sent Dawson to mid-wicket, and he followed that up by removing youngster Stone. Even though Haris was denied a hat trick on review after his searing yorker hit Topley on the boot, England’s tailender, Reece Topley, was run out in the penultimate over to stir up celebrations in Pakistan.
“Every player goes through challenging periods during their career, and as a team, we back players who are enduring bad patches,” Haris told a post-match news conference.
“Those who are here are because of their ability to win matches, and we believe in them as team-mates,” added Haris, with the players in the current squad set to be the ones who will represent Pakistan next month’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
“In cricket, everyone takes their time to learn, especially in T20 cricket. There can be good and bad days. What’s important is to believe in your abilities.”
