Following the dismal performance by West Ham against Chelsea on Sunday, Irons manager David Moyes has made the decision to leave the team; rumours are that a former Real Madrid handler would take his place.
Former Real Madrid manager may replace David Moyes at West Ham
The West Ham manager declared in a statement issued on Monday that he would be leaving his position at the end of this season. Last season, the squad won the Europa Conference League under the direction of 61-year-old Moyes, after 43 years of waiting.
“I would like to thank the board for giving me the opportunity to manage this great club,” Moyes remarked, under increasing strain from his team’s subpar play.
“I have had four and a half fantastic years at West Ham, and the club is in a stronger position than when I returned back in 2019.”
The former Manchester United manager wished “all the best for the future to my eventual successor, the directors, the players, the staff, the fans, and everybody at West Ham.”
According to sources quoted by ESPN, West Ham management talked about bringing in Julen Lopetegui, the former manager of Real Madrid, to take over for the Scottish in the upcoming campaign.Also confirming the search for Moyes’ replacement was the East London club’s board.
Moyes became well-known when, in spite of financial difficulties, Everton turned into a competitive team during his 11-year rule. After Everton placed fourth in the 2004–05 Premier League, he was also named League Managers Association (LMA) Manager of the Year.
But Moyes was handpicked nine months later and fired after just nine months as manager of Manchester United. In 2019 the former Scottish player became manager of West Ham United.
