Karachi Kings, the PSL season five champions, traded heavily with Multan Sultans before the December 13 draft. This trade brings Shan Masood, Pakistan’s Test captain, to the Karachi Kings. Karachi Kings gave up left-arm wrist spinner Faisal Akram and their diamond and silver round picks. Masood joined the Sultans in 2018 and debuted in the PSL against the Kings in 2019. In 2020, he led the Sultans to league title and playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

Masood scored 1,318 runs in 42 matches and helped Sultans win the 2021 title. Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans sign megadeal Chief Executive Ali Khan Tareen said: “I want to thank Shan Masood, the Sultans family’s longest-serving member. As captain, he contributed greatly to our success. We will miss him and wish him well in his new team.” Former captain Imad Wasim was traded to Islamabad United for Hasan Ali.
On Wednesday, December 13, the National Cricket Academy in Lahore will host the PSL season nine draft. The tentative schedule for PSL 9 is 8 February–24 March 2024. Two countries are reportedly in contention to host PSL 9 matches. Due to Pakistani elections, UAE and South Africa may host PSL’s first matches. However, sources say most franchises want the entire event in Pakistan.
