Earlier, Pakistan kept up their great play and beat Sri Lanka in a famous match in the eighth game of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Tuesday. In the history of the ODI World Cup, the Men in Green beat Ireland to set the record for the worst run chase. Pakistan was having a hard time reaching their goal of 345 runs because they lost their top two batters, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam, in just 7.1 overs. They were 37-2 at the time, but Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique, who was playing in his first World Cup, put together a winning partnership that turned things around for the struggling Pakistani team.

Between them, the two hitters hit 176 runs, giving their team a much-needed break and putting them back in charge. Abdullah went back to the pavilion after scoring 113 runs off of 103 balls, which included 10 fours and 3 sixes. But Rizwan stayed until the end and led his team to victory by scoring 131 runs, which was Pakistan’s second-highest individual score in the World Cup, after Ramiz Raja’s 119 against New Zealand in 1992. The team led by Babar Azam also beat the Netherlands in their first game of the tournament.
