Babar Azam captains Pakistan in white-ball cricket again
As of Sunday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made Babar Azam the captain of the national team for both T20Is and one-day internationals (ODIs). Changes were made to the team’s captain before the Green Shirts’ five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which starts on April 18.
The PCB wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Babar Azam appointed as white-ball captain.”
The chairman of the PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, chose Babar Azam to be the white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team after the selection committee unanimously agreed with the choice.
Babar quit as captain of the national team last November, ending his years-long time as captain. People were mad at the former captain for a few months after Pakistan didn’t do well in the Asia Cup and carried that bad form into the World Cup, where they lost before making it to the semifinals.
Babar, who is 29 years old, was named white-ball captain in 2019 and Test captain in 2020, but the Green Shirts haven’t won any ICC or Asia Cup wins while he’s been in charge. After that, Shaheen Shah Afridi was named white-ball captain by the PCB under Zaka Ashraf after the team lost the ICC World Cup 2023.
At the same time, Shan Masood was made captain of the red ball by the former management. Babar Azam has played for his country in 52 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 109 T20Is. He has been captain of his team for 71 T20 games, including the T20 World Cup. The Men in Green won 42 games and lost 23 games while he was in charge.
