Arshad Nadeem suffers without top-notch javelin before Paris Olympics

Pakistan’s talented javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem is struggling before the Paris Olympics without a top-quality javelin. Last year at the World Championship in Hungary, Nadeem became the first Indian athlete to win a silver medal with a throw of 87.82m, narrowly behind India’s Neeraj Chopra, who won gold with 88.17m.

Nadeem told that his only international-level javelin is broken. Nadeem is exercising using a locally made javelin, which could injure him.“I have trained for the Paris Olympics with a locally-made javelin for seven to eight years. The international standard javelin I had in bad shape. Nadeem said he needs five to six high-quality javelins for international events.

“Using substandard local javelin could also lead to injuries,” he said.

Nadeem further added “Most of the time ground is not available for training due to events” and cannot prepare adequately.

Several international events before the Olympics were also hoped for by the 27-year-old. Nadeem stated he will soon travel to South Africa to further his Paris Games training.

After knee surgery, Mian Channu hopes to get back in shape soon. He qualified for the Paris Olympics through the event. Fitness difficulties prevented him from competing in the Asian Championship, Asian Games, and Asian Throwing Championship last year.

Arshad’s best throw is 90.18 metres, set at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The Paris Olympics javelin throw will be placed in Stade de France, France’s largest venue. August 6 is the qualifying round and August 8 is the final. Arshad placed fifth in the Tokyo Olympics final with an 84.62m throw.
