West Indies whitewash prompts PCB women’s selection committee reinstitution

Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, reorganised the national women’s team’s selection committee on Thursday, adding seven new members to it. The board said in a statement that this happened after the national team lost all three games of the one-day international (ODI) series they just finished to the West Indies women’s team. When it came to the ODI series, the hosts lost the second game by two wickets. In the third and final game on April 23, they won by 88 runs. Even though they lost 3-0, Pakistan is still in fifth place in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25, which has ten teams.

Keep in mind that the top five teams in this tournament, along with the hosts, India, will go straight to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The other teams will play in an event to qualify for the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The PCB says that Asmavia Iqbal and Marina Iqbal are still members of the previous selection group. Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, and Batool Fatima, a past international player, are also joining them. Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq are both members of the men’s national selection committee. The board also said that the coach and leader will be on the national women’s selection committee.

The PCB’s statement also made it clear that the new committee’s main job will be to choose the players for the upcoming tour of England, where they will play three T20Is and three ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 games from May 11 to May 29.
