Revised aim, playing conditions for rain-affected Pak vs Ind Asia Cup match

Heavy rain in Colombo has stopped the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match between Pakistan and India.

If India can’t bat any more today and Pakistan has to try to catch up in 20 overs, the goal will be 181.

If Pakistan gets the same number of overs, their goal will be to reach 206 in 24 overs.

According to the rules, if there is no more play today, the game will pick up where it left off tomorrow, and no overs will be lost.

But if the chase can be done in 20 overs today, the umpires will try to finish a shorter game today instead of using the spare day.

Here are the rules for the Asia Cup 2023 spare day:

Example 1: The game starts with 50 overs for each team, and there is a break after 18 overs. Overs have been cut down to 40 for each team, and play is about to start again. Rain comes before the next ball is hit, and the game is over for the day. Since the match did not continue with the new number of overs, it should continue on the Reserve Day with the original 50 overs per side. If necessary, the number of overs should be cut during the Reserve Day.

Example 2: Same as Example 1, the game starts with 50 overs for each team, and there is a break after 19 overs. Overs have been cut down to 35 for each team, and play is about to start again. This time, the game starts, and after one over, it starts to rain, so the game is called off for the day. Since the game has already started again, it will continue on the Reserve Day with 35 overs per team. If necessary, the number of overs will be cut even more during the Reserve Day.

Example 3: There are 50 points on each side. Rain in the early morning makes it impossible to play. Last, the game is set to start with 30 overs per side. People put their names forward, and then the toss takes place. But after that, there is no more play because it starts to rain again. The next day, the players come back. On time, the play begins. It’s now a 50-over game for each side.

When they played India, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Pakistan has sent out the same team for this high-stakes match. India, meanwhile, has made two changes. One of them had to be made because Shreyas Iyer got a back spasm right before the start and had to be replaced by KL Rahul. Mohammad Shami has also been replaced by Jasprit Bumrah in India’s team.
