Quetta Gladiators beat Karachi Kings by five wickets in the gripping 16th match of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 at the National Bank Stadium on Thursday. An explosive half-century by Sherfane Rutherford guided his team to a well-deserved win. One four and six maximums accompanied his quickfire 58 runs off 31 balls. Jason Roy scored 31-ball 52 runs with 2 boundaries and 4 sixes for the winners, while Saud Shakeel scored 24 and Akeal Hosein unbeaten 22.

Zahid Mahmood and Hasan Ali took two wickets for Karachi Kings, conceding 17 and 39 runs, while Shoaib Malik took one. Quetta Gladiators’ spinners claimed seven wickets to restrict Karachi Kings to 165/8. Shan Masood, the Kings’ captain, was dismissed for a duck in the first over. The Kings reached 61/1 before the end of the powerplay thanks to vice-captain James Vince and Tim Seifert’s 59-run partnership.

Usman Tariq’s rapid dismissals of Vince and Seifert changed the game. Vince scored 37 runs off 25 balls, including eight boundaries, while Seifert scored 21 off 11 balls. Before falling to Abrar Ahmed, M Nawaz and Shoaib Malik shared 39 runs to stabilize the innings.

Nawaz was dismissed after a quick 28 from 19 balls as the Kings struggled at 138/8 in 17.2 overs. Hasan Ali, Kieron Pollard, and Muhammad Irfan Khan also faded quickly. Anwar Ali’s unbeaten 25 off 14 balls, including four and two sixes, lifted the Kings to 165/8. For the Gladiators, Abrar Ahmed took 3-31, Hosein and Tariq each took two, and Sohail Khan took one.
