The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked former New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman Luke Ronchi to coach the national team. The sources said Ronchi, New Zealand’s assistant coach, wants time to consider coaching the Men in Green. Ronchi, who has represented Australia and New Zealand, declined the PCB’s offer to coach the Men in Green, therefore Bradburn was hired. The news follows PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s announcement last week that the board was finalizing a coach panel ahead of the five-match T20I series against the Black Caps on April 18. Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick, who were relocated to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore in November 2023 due to portfolio changes, resigned in January.

Arthur became Pakistan men’s cricket team director in April 2023, while Bradburn became head coach last year. Since April 2023, former South Africa cricketer Puttick has been batting coach. After making his limited-overs debut for Australia in 2008, the former New Zealander has played four Tests, 85 ODIs, and 33 T20Is.

Ronchi has played league cricket for Guyana Amazon Warriors, Islamabad United, Mumbai Indian, and Perth Scorchers. Shane Watson, Mike Hesson, and Darren Sammy declined to coach Pakistan.

Watson declined because he was too busy coaching and commentating to leave without notice. Sammy rebuffed PCB offers due to his West Indies board commitment as white-ball team head coach.
