He called media reports of captaincy divisions “speculations”. Riaz slammed local media and certain social media for saying “players are going to kill each other if we don’t send them to Kakul”.
Senior team manager stated media stories were false and that the players had a “pleasant time” in Kakul and trained at the Army School of Physical Training (ASPT) camp.
Riaz reiterated that Shaheen Shah Afridi is Pakistan’s strike bowler and brand identity, explaining why Azam was named captain. He claimed the team wants him “fresh” for large competitions and “free mind to execute his skills”.
“All players are united and play for Pakistan,” Riaz said.
He also called former PCB chief Ramiz Raja’s comment about pacer Mohammad Amir “negative” in another enquiry.
The legendary cricket analyst criticised Amir’s comeback to the national squad after his international retirement and said corrupt cricketers should not be pardoned or banished.
He said everyone has a right to voice their viewpoint and refused to comment on Raja’s comments other than calling them unfavourable.
Riaz said the PCB announced a squad of 17 players, five of them are reserves, and will be expected to perform well before selecting the World Cup squad before April 25.

Wahab commented on Babar’s return as captain and the team’s lack of a vice-captain: “Babar Azam is the white ball captain. Discussions are ongoing with the vice-captain. Someone should support Babar. We will investigate everything that benefits the team and make announcements later.”
