The day before quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs led his team to yet another Super Bowl, his game-used jersey went up for six figures at an auction.
Patrick Mahomes’ game-worn jersey fetches $213,500 at auction
The 28-year-old athlete wore the shirt, which was sold through auction company Goldin, during a 2022 National Football League (NFL) game against the Las Vegas Raiders, according to Daily Mail.
One of the most costly jerseys ever sold, this Mahomes shirt went for a winning bid of $175,000 plus a premium that the buyer ultimately paid, making the final amount a whooping $213,500. Mahomes led the team to a narrow 30-29 victory in Week 10 of the season by passing for 292 yards and four touchdowns.
That season, Kansas City defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in a close game to win the Super Bowl. On their offensive line, the Eagles had Jason Kelce, a player whose game-used jersey was put up for auction over the weekend. After a buyer premium, a 2019 Eagles center’s uniform from a game versus the New England Patriots sold for more than $17,507 dollars.
The Eagles lost 17-10 to the Super Bowl champion Patriots, so the game wasn’t as successful as Mahomes’. A day later, Hall-of-Fame candidate Antonio Gates’ jersey went up for auction. Gates is another NFL player.
