India beat Pakistan in a much-anticipated Asia Cup 2023 match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. India won the toss and chose to bat first.Pakistan kept the same team that beat Nepal by 238 runs on Wednesday. Pakistan has also lost four of its last five Asia Cup matches against India. Their last win came in Mirpur in 2014.

It was the same game where Shahid Afridi hit Ravichandran Ashwin for two sixes in a row in the last over to help Pakistan win.Between August 30 and September 17, 2023, the Asia Cup will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.  There will be four matches in Pakistan and nine in Sri Lanka, including the final. Nepal and India are also in Group A with Pakistan. Group B is made up of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. At the Asia Cup 2023, the top two teams from each group will move on to the Super 4 stage.

“We would have batted first, but toss is not in our hands. We have played a lot of cricket here, so we know the conditions. Top teams are playing so Asia Cup is good. We’ll try to do our best. It’s a high intensity match, we’ll try to be calm and composed,” Pakistan captain Babar Azam said at the toss.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said: “There is a bit of weather around, but can’t think much about it. Got to play good cricket, you need to embrace the challenge, embrace the situation. We had some time off after the West Indies series. Everyone was up for those drills and challenges in Bangalore. Let’s see what we can achieve in this tournament.”
