Rizwan had a precautionary MRI on Monday because the match between Pakistan and India on September 4 hurt his knee. Head Coach Babar Azam said earlier that he had talked to Rizwan and was doing well today.

Rizwan injured his right knee in the 15th over of India’s innings when he slipped awkwardly while attempting to catch a bouncer from Mohammad Hasnain that was pitched high above his head. When the Pakistani trainer saw the wicketkeeper in distress, he dashed out onto the field. Despite limping for a spell, Rizwan batted on and made a vital contribution for Pakistan, leading the team’s run chase with 71 off 51 balls.

Rizwan allegedly had an MRI scan after the game, but additional scans have been scheduled as a precaution. Rizwan leads all Asia Cup 2022 batters with 192 runs, including two fifty-plus scores in as many games. Since the year 2000, the opener has scored 1521 runs in Twenty20 Internationals.

This is the most in men’s T20I history by any player. Pakistan’s chances at this year’s Asia Cup have been hurt by the absence of several key players, including star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, as well as Mohammad Wasim and Shahnawaz Dahani, due to injury. Pakistan will face Afghanistan in the Super Four round of the Asia Cup 2022 on Wednesday.
