Mohammad Amir retracts retirement to play in 2024 T20 World Cup
Amir, 31, put his international career on hold in 2020 due to PCB management concerns but is back available for selection. He told X, formerly Twitter, that he still wants to play for Pakistan and has retired again to put his nation first.
“I still dream to play for Pakistan,” Amir wrote on X. Sometimes life forces us to rethink our choices.
After talking with family and well-wishers, I proclaim that I am available for the forthcoming t20WC. The PCB kindly made me feel required and capable of playing for Pakistan.
I want to do something for my country before my own. My greatest dream has always been to wear the green jersey and serve my country.”
As the 2024 T20 World Cup approaches, supporters are discussing Amir’s comeback to international cricket after an impressive Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine campaign in which he showed his pace, notably with the new ball and in death overs. Amir retired and may play in the 2024 T20 World Cup despite his repeated denials.
Remember, Amir has played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is for Pakistan. He last played internationally in 2020. Pakistan won the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup and 2017 ICC Champions Trophy with the pacer. He defeated India’s top-order of Rohit Sharma, Shikar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli in the Champions Trophy 2017 final to win Pakistan their first eight-team event.
