Dunith Wellalage, a “young gun” from Sri Lanka who is only 20 years old, took five wickets against India in their second Super 4 stage match in the Asia Cup 2023, which is being played today (Tuesday). As a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga, the young spinner made a name for himself by getting rid of India’s top order.
India VS Sri Lanka: Wellalage’s 5-wicket haul impresses
He got rid of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya, all of whom were important wickets. Wellage did this great thing while only giving up 40 runs. Experts, past cricketers, and fans have all said the performance was very good. India’s strong batting lineup could only score 213 runs in their second Super 4 match on Tuesday.
This was because Sri Lankan bowlers did a great job of controlling the strong batting lineup in 49 overs. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, chose to bat first after he won the toss. Even though the Indian leader got 50, the Men in Blue didn’t get off to a good start because the Sri Lankan “young gun” Dunith Wellalage took out the first two batsmen.
Rohit Sharma, who was India’s captain, had the best score of the match with 53 runs. Three of the Indian batters didn’t even make it to the double digits. Wellage, on the other hand, got a “five–for” for Sri Lanka while only giving up 40 runs. Charith Asalanka and Maheesh Theekshana each got four wickets, while Theekshana only got one. The Indian team was out after 49.1 overs, so Sri Lanka had to score 214 runs in 50 overs to win.
