India denies special treatment after Pakistan asked for a guarantee of safety for its cricket team when it goes to India for the World Cup this year. Arindam Bagchi, who works for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, said that the Pakistan team would not get any special treatment. “Pak Team is just as important to us as every other team. No special treatment will be given, and proper protection will be given when and where it is needed,” the official said.
India denies special treatment to Pakistan over World Cup security assurance
The government in Islamabad told the national team last week that they could go to the World Cup in India in October and November. “Pakistan has always said that sports and politics should stay separate.
“It has therefore decided to send its Cricket Team to India to participate in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
But the foreign ministry said it was worried about the safety of the national team in India. Pakistan will play its first game of the World Cup on October 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad against the Netherlands. The day matches will start at 10 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time (PST), and all the other matches will start at 1:30 p.m. PST. Pakistan will play in Kolkata if they make it to the semifinals. If India makes it to the semi-finals, they will play in Mumbai unless they are playing against Pakistan, in which case they will play in Kolkata.
The Cricket World Cup will be played in a round-robin style, where each team will play 45 league matches against every other team. The top four teams will move on to the quarterfinals, which will be on November 15 in Mumbai and on November 16 in Kolkata. There will be spare days for the semifinals and the final.
