India won the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2023. On Saturday in Chennai, India, they beat Malaysia 4-3 in a game with seven goals. The Blues kept going through the event without losing, and in the final against Malaysia, they made an incredible comeback that shocked everyone. India got off to a great start. In the 9th minute of the game, they were given a penalty corner, which Jugraj Singh turned into a goal.

Azrai Abu Kamal scored his team’s first goal right before the first quarter’s end. This tied the score at 1-1 and ensured his team didn’t go into the second quarter behind. The Malaysians played like fighters in the next quarter and scored two more goals to make it 3-1 in their favor. This put the home team against the wall. Also, Rahim Razie and Mohammad Aminuddin scored for the guests in the 18th and 28th minutes of the second quarter, putting them ahead of the Blues.
But India didn’t want to fail their home fans, so they went all out against Malaysia and scored two goals in the last minute of the third quarter. Captain Harmanpreet Singh and Gurjant Singh scored for India, scoring 3-3. Both teams gave their all in the last quarter, but India’s Akashdeep Singh scored the game-winning goal in the 56th minute to cap a historic comeback.
At the event’s end, Harmanpreet scored the most goals with nine, which was four more than Mohammad Sufyan Khan of Pakistan, who scored five. India scored 29 goals in the game, which was the most of any team in the Asian event. Thus, they also scored 16 goals from penalty corners, which was the most of any team. Also, Pakistan came in fifth place in the tournament, and the only games they won were against China. They tied with Korea and Japan and lost to India and Malaysia, who went on to win the cup.
