Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi ascend ICC Test rankings
Babar moves up one rank to third overall and gets a rating of 874 points, which is a career high. This is because he scored a century in Pakistan’s first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. During that Test, Babar scored 119 runs, which helped Pakistan’s first-innings total of 218 runs stay close to Sri Lanka’s first-innings total of 222 runs. Pakistan’s best fast bowler, Shaheen Afridi, also moved up in the latest list of Test bowlers. He joined Pakistan’s captain, Sarfraz Ahmed, as a big mover.
In the bowler rankings, Afridi moved up to third place after taking four wickets in the first innings of the Sri Lankan Test against India. In the second innings of the Galle Test, Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique scored a century that won the game. He was named Player of the Match, and his 671 rating points moved him up the batter rankings to 16th place overall. Only Sunil Gavaskar (692) and Donald Bradman (693) have scored more points in their first six Tests (687). Shafique has a new record for Pakistani batsmen with 671 points after six Test matches.
