As promised, Alex Hartley, the spin bowling coach for the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), is fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. Hartley, a former English cricket player, is breaking new ground in the current PSL 9 because she has been a key part of the Multan team’s success in making it to the final, which will be held at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on March 18.
Alex Hartley of Multan Sultans confirms Ramadan fasting
Hartley said that every player on the team is fasting, so she wanted to know what it’s like being hungry all day and how they feel before a game. She then talked about how fasting makes it hard for her to do what she normally does. She admitted that it is “very hard.”
Remember that the Sultans beat Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi in the Qualifier on March 14 to become the first team to make it to the final of the ninth PSL season. Mohammad Rizwan’s team easily beat the 147-run goal and made it to their fourth straight final without much trouble. They will now play the winner of the second elimination game on Saturday in Karachi and is between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United.
“We have just broken our fast now after we fasted all day. I have had some dates and some salad. We can eat till 4 am and then we don’t eat again till 6:40 pm the next day. It is hard, so hard,” she explained.
“I go to bed at 4 am and sleep during the day, as our games start at 9 pm in the night,” she concluded.
