Afghanistan defeat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in World Cup 2023

Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets on Monday in the 30th match of the ICC World Cup 2023, which took place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Afghanistan had an easy time scoring runs. For the first time in the history of the tournament, Hashmatullah Shahidi’s men won two games in a row.

Before this year’s big event, they had only won one game in two World Cups, in 2015 and 2019. The Afghans played very well and didn’t make hasty or bad shots, just like in their last win over Pakistan, when they chased down 282 runs with eight wickets to spare.

In the first over, Dilshan Madushanka got rid of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was in good form, which dealt them a blow. However, Rahmat Shah and Ibrahim Zardan gave their batting the security it needed. Shah was Afghanistan’s best hope for getting runs. The right-handed hitter hit seven fours and scored 62 runs off of 74 balls. Shah was bowled out by Kasun Rajitha.

Then, captain Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzi put together a 111-run partnership that won the game for their team. Over the course of 45.2 overs, Shahidi scored 58 runs and Omarzai got 72 runs to help their team reach the 242 run goal. When Sri Lanka batted first, Afghanistan’s bowlers made it hard for their batters. Only Pathum Nissanka, who got 46 runs, was able to make a big score. The Afghanistani bowlers kept getting wickets, and they were soon out for 241 runs.

It was Kusal Mendis (39) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (36) who scored the most goals for the Islanders. The Afghan bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi was the best. The left-handed pacer gave Kusal Mendis’ team a lot of trouble and took four wickets for 34 runs in 10 overs. Afghanistan’s next game is on November 3 in Lucknow against the Netherlands. It will be a big game for Shahidi’s team as they try to stay in the running for the semi-finals. On November 2, Sri Lanka will play India, who has never lost, in Mumbai.
