In a first in cricket history, Afghanistan defeat Pakistan in Chennai on Monday. Their openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, played very well, which led to the win. Monday was Afghanistan’s second big surprise of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. They beat Pakistan by eight wickets, which was their first ever win in an ODI against the Men in Green.

Afghanistan needed to score 283 runs to win, and Ibrahim Zadran (87), Rahmat Shah (77 not out), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (48 not out) all played great games that helped them reach their goal with six balls to spare. Afghanistan shocked the defending champions England earlier in the event. Pakistan and Afghanistan have now each won two of their five group games and lost three. In ODI cricket, these two teams have played eight times against each other, with a score of 7-1 each time.
