In Melbourne on Sunday, Kohli hammered an unbeaten 82 to lead his team to a historic last-ball triumph over Pakistan. And that knock has propelled the former India skipper back into the top 10 for batters.
Following his magnificent 53-ball stay at the MCG, in which he blasted six fours and four big sixes, the 33-year-old climbed five spots to ninth in the ICC’s newest player rankings, which were announced on Wednesday.
Former Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan is still the best in the game. Still, New Zealand’s Devon Conway has moved to second place. It was after scoring an undefeated 92 in a T20 World Cup match against Australia.
Throughout his 58-ball innings, Conway flailed the Australian attack to all parts of the SCG. He and Finn Allen (42 off 16) combined to defeat the defending T20 World Cup champions. It was observed on Saturday in the opening match of the Super 12s.
Conway’s innings puts him at a career-high rating of 831, surpassing Suryakumar Yadav of India, Babar Azam of Pakistan, and Aiden Markram of South Africa. He is now within striking reach of challenging Rizwan for the top spot.
Also on the rise is Allen, who, thanks to a swashbuckling knock against the Australians, has moved up 17 spots and is now tied for 13th place among batters.
