Eight cities were selected to host games: Atlanta; Boston; Dallas; Houston; Kansas City; Los Angeles; Miami; New York/NJ; Philadelphia; San Francisco Bay Area; Seattle. Thus, this year’s World Cup will also take place in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Vancouver as well as Guadalajara in Mexico. While the Rose Bowl had hosted the 1994 World Cup Final, FIFA opted for SoFi Stadium, the new home of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Chargers. Therefore, there were six finalist cities: Baltimore/Washington DC; Cincinnati; Denver; Edmonton; Nashville; and Orlando. Also, Baltimore and Washington teamed up earlier this year to submit a single proposal. So, At the 2026 World Cup, there will be 48 teams participating for the first time. Only 32 teams had previously qualified for the tournament. Thus, this is the first time that three countries will take turns hosting the event at the same time. In 1994, the United States hosted the World Cup; in 2026, Canada will play host for the first time.
