Former Pakistan captain played as an opening batsman for the national team, but the Pakistan Cricket Board management and criticism of his poor strike rate forced him to play at one down. He hit five half-centuries in 10 matches alongside Saim Ayub as his opening pair in the PSL this season.

Babar said he enjoyed opening a match with Ayub while they discussed the match.

“My and Ayub’s playing is different as we strategize (a match),” he remarked.

Ayub had become a true all-rounder, and his side had found a great bowler in him, his captain said. He told the media that they originally had problems combining but eventually did.

Babar said that he didn’t care about criticism because he performed well in the stadium. “I know my game and I try to improve it daily,” he remarked. When asked about the joyful experience of hearing people sing “Babar, Babar”, he stated he could not articulate it. “It feels great when people call my name,” he said. He said he performed to make people happy.

On Monday night, Pehsawar Zalmi beat Karachi Kings by two runs in a last-ball thriller at the National Stadium Karachi. Peshawar restricted Karachi to 145/5 after aiming for 148. Shan Masood’s Karachi finished fifth with eight points, while Babar’s squad made the playoffs with 13 points.
