Younis ‘to get important role’, share Naqvi’s PCB powers
On Tuesday, reports said Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will appoint former veteran cricketer Waqar Younis and share his powers with him. According to sources, Younis will handle cricket-related matters while PCB chief Naqvi, who also serves as interior minister, will handle administrative matters, including the 2025 Champions Trophy, which Pakistan will host in February and March next year. The ex-cricketer would presumably make decisions about international and domestic cricket, the selection committee, and player No Objection Certificates (NOCs).
The chairman of the board can delegate his power to someone, hence Younis will make all team choices under the PCB Constitution 2014. They stated that Naqvi wants veteran cricketers involved in key cricketing matters. Pakistan’s cricket future was discussed by the chairman and around two dozen former and current cricketers earlier this month. Naqvi promised to execute five or six of the meeting’s cricketers’ proposals. The PCB chief stated Islamabad and Peshawar will get cricket academies at Yasir Hameed’s proposal. The grounds will also be upgraded.
He promised to prioritize four-day cricket, educate coaches, and hire qualified coaches. The chairman announced five domestic teams with five coaches and mentors.
