Tuesday, Pakistan’s white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan answered the rumors about Babar Azam’s ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 batting stance, set to start on February 19.
Babar, who has not yet scored a century since his 151-run attack against Nepal in August 2023, is under a lot of criticism because of his poor performance over all forms.
Promoted to begin the innings with returning Fakhar Zaman for the just finished tri-nation ODI series and the Champions Trophy 2025 to follow, the right-handed hitter only produced meager scores of 10, 23 and 29 in three innings thus far, therefore failing to change the tide in his favour.
Cricket commentators, who labeled the action “unjust,” criticized him for failing in the new post.
As he was “satisfied” with the situation, Pakistan skipper Rizwan said after addressing the pre-match conference ahead of the national team’s campaign opener against New Zealand that the great batsman will remain an opener in the big event.
“Babar Azam will be opening for Pakistan. Babar is happy with the arrangement; we need a left-right mix in the middle overs.” stated Mohammad Rizwan.
“We have tremendous hopes from Babar Azam since he is a fantastic player. He is a major member of our squad, hence we hope he will be very important for our success.” He said.
With 29 half-hundreds and 19 centuries to his credit, Babar notably has a great record batting at number three in ODIs, having amassed 5,416 runs at an amazing average of 60.17 and a strike rate of 88.33.
