LONDON: India’s 15-man selection includes two spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand, which begins on Friday.

Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Hanuma Vihari, and Umesh Yadav all returned to India’s test team after missing the home series against England earlier this year due to injuries acquired during the tour of Australia in December and January.

After being chosen in the preliminary 20-man team, left-arm spinner Axar Patel, who sparkled in the 3-1 test series triumph over England, and batsman KL Rahul, who underwent appendix surgery in May, both missed the cut.

Mayank Agarwal, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur were also left off the list.

After missing the eight-wicket triumph over England at Edgbaston due to injury, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and wicketkeeper BJ Watling were deemed fit to play in the final earlier on Tuesday.

Following the success of the Twenty20 and 50-over world cups, the WTC was established in 2019 to offer a pinnacle event for five-day international cricket.

Before India and New Zealand moved ahead to take the top two slots in the final, Australia and England were in the race.

The Rose Bowl in Southampton will host the title match.

Squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj.
