After missing the Australia series, previous top-ranked ICC T20I batter Dawid Malan departed on Wednesday, likely to express his unhappiness. One of two English batsmen to score 100 in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
Top England batter Dawid Malan retires from international cricket
After being disqualified from the next white-ball series against Australia, the left-handed hitter vented. England selected white-ball squads for a three-game T20I series and five one-day internationals against Australia in September. Three of the five T20I-less players made the ODI team.
The 36-year-old hitter played 22 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 62 T20s for his country starting in 2017. In his first match against South Africa, he scored 78 from 44 balls. England’s leading run scorer hit 140 runs in one Ashes game. His first Test century. He scored six hundreds in 30 ODIs.
In T20I games, the batter was chastised for starting slowly and then rushing up. The Times’ exclusive interview with Malan revealed that his biggest regret is failing to maintain his Test cricket performance.
“On the field, I always did what I thought was right to help the team win,” stated. Whether we won or lost, I never left the field after a run. I always wanted to win and wondered if I had made the appropriate field judgements.
I exceeded expectations in white-ball shapes. I always believed test cricket was greatest. Though I believed I was better, I did well sometimes but not enough.
Before the days grew long and gruelling, I trained hard because I love hitting balls. No off button. Playing a long Test series when my ability fell after the third or fourth Test was hard on my head. Malan will likely play T20 series. He recently won The Hundred with Oval Invincibles. He played PSL for Multan Sultans and SA20 for Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
