Suryakumar Reacts to Champions Trophy Omission

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain, admitted that his poor ODI results were the main cause for his withdrawal from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad. Yadav told media before Wednesday’s first T20I against England that he was disappointed but understood the selectors’ decision.

“It hurts to think I did poorly. Suryakumar stated he would have stayed if he had done well.

The top-order hitter, known for his spectacular T20I performances, has struggled in 50-over cricket. Despite scoring 773 runs in 37 ODIs at 25.76, Suryakumar has struggled in the longer format.

The Mumbai Indians star was mature when asked about the non-selection. It hurts, why? I could have played in the Champions Trophy if I did well. If I fail, I must accept it “said.

Suryakumar also praised the Champions Trophy participants for their steady ODI and domestic performances.

“The team looks great. All present are good performers. He claimed they’ve done well for India in that format.

India revealed its 15-man roster for the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the UAE on January 18. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the squad during a news conference.
