The Pakistan Super League (PSL) announced on Thursday that Sri Lanka’s white-ball skipper Charith Asalanka has joined the 10th edition’s player draft. A banner and message on the league’s social media accounts read, “A class act! Captain Charith Asalanka joins #HBLPSLDraft.”
The 27-year-old, who debuted in 2021, became Sri Lanka’s white-ball skipper in July following Wanindu Hasaranga’s departure. Sri Lanka’s Asalanka has amassed 3500 runs in three Tests, 68 ODIs, and 58 T20Is with three hundreds and 20 fifties.
Through 134 T20s matches, he has extensive experience. Apart from the Lanka Premier League, the batting all-rounder played only International League T20. For the first time, Gwadar will host the PSL 10 draft on January 11, 2025, and Asalanka is the first Sri Lankan and 30th overall international player to register.
In the platinum category’s first round, two-time champions Lahore Qalandars pick first, followed by archrivals Karachi Kings. The 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators will pick third and Peshawar Zalmi fourth. Last season’s runners-up, Sultans, and champions United will pick fifth and sixth.
