Sindh honours and awards javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem
CM Murad Ali Shah invited Pakistan’s javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem to the Chief Minister’s House on Thursday, where Sindh ministers and government officials praised and awarded him for his historic Paris Olympics performance. The ace javelin thrower achieved a first Olympic gold medal for the country in 40 years by throwing 92.97 metres at the Paris Games 2024 earlier this month. As a national hero, Nadeem has received protocol and honour since.
Nadeem was welcomed like a hero at the CM House, where CM Shah personally received him and a cabinet session was paused. CM Shah and his cabinet welcomed Nadeem and praised his record-breaking 92.97-meter throw, which motivated people worldwide. In today’s meeting, Shah honoured Nadeem’s historic achievements and highlighted the significance of winning additional gold medals to excite the nation, according to CM House. Shah said Pakistan should aim for 24 international gold medals with its 240 million people.
“Nadeem is national pride. Arshad Nadeem, you have made history and are a role model for our kids. He claimed his worldwide success proves dedication overcomes all hurdles. CM Shah watched Nadeem’s historic win with the nation. It was a memorable night. We couldn’t stop talking about your amazing performance with friends and family,” he informed the athlete. Nadeem thanked the chief minister for his encouragement. The Sindh CM’s Paris call congratulating him inspired him to achieve more.
CM Murad gave Nadeem Rs50 million and Sindhi gifts including an ajrak, headgear, khes, and other souvenirs for his achievements. Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Nasir gave Nadeem’s mother a car for raising such a brave and capable son. Senior minister Sharjeel Memon promised a premium automobile number plate. Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani said that a major Karachi road would be named after Nadeem to honour his national contributions.
Sardar Mohammad Bux Maher, the Sports Minister, gave Nadeem a department and personal cheque. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced the development of an Olympian-themed sports academy. After the reception, CM Sindh assured Nadeem of his assistance. “You are only a phone call away,” he informed the gold medalist, “and I am here to help whenever you need anything or have suggestions for promoting sports in the province”. Inspired by Nadeem’s achievements, the gathering ended with a pledge to develop sports in the country.
