After Pakistan’s second Test loss, Test captain Shan Masood answered a journalist’s straight question in a news conference on Monday.
The captain responded with tolerance, frustration, and clarity to the issue, which seemed to undermine Masood’s decision-making authority. The journalist questioned, “Will you decide or will the PCB decide?” A terse “Next question.” ignored the question, which raised questions about Masood’s impact on team decisions.
Masood eventually answered more fully, showing confidence and respect for his institution.
“I won’t respond to what happened in the past,” he said, keeping the team’s future in mind.
He then addressed the journalist’s claim that the information was wrong. “If you want to talk about facts, feel free, but your information is completely wrong,” he remarked bluntly.
Shan advised, “Give respect to your players too.”
Masood said that the PCB makes team decisions. “Making decisions is PCB’s job, and all decisions, including mine, are accepted by everyone,” he said, emphasising his respect for the board and its influence on the squad.
Shan was committed to representing Pakistan despite his unhappiness with the question’s tone. “We are for this country and this institution, we are also your people,” stated.
Shan rebuked the journalist’s insulting question sharply. “No one will tolerate being disrespected like this,” he said.
I found your question offensive. You undermined someone with your question, he said.
The left-handed batter focused on the team’s accomplishments, reminding the journalist of their dedication despite the strain.
He remarked, “We play for Pakistan, and everything we do is to bring results,” referencing the team’s previous performance. “We won three of four matches under these conditions. He added, “We lost one match due to first-day blunders.
Shan concluded by advising the journalist to investigate before making assumptions.
“Do some research before asking, give whatever opinion you want,” he said.
