With only 17 ODI appearances under his belt, standby seamer Mohammed Shami was recently ruled out of the home T20 series against Australia due to a case of COVID. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced, “Shami has reached Australia and will meet up with the squad in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up matches.” On October 23, India will open their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in Melbourne.
Next week, India will play Australia and New Zealand in practice matches before the tournament begins. The team hasn’t been able to win a major tournament since the Champions Trophy in 2013, and their bowling assault has been tiring in the closing overs of previous games.
Top all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is out with a knee injury, so Rohit Sharma and I will also be without him. The BCCI has announced that Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur will act as substitutes.
