Ahead of the 10th edition of the competition, scheduled to start on April 11, former Pakistan Super League (PSL) winners Quetta Gladiators assigned winners Trophy-winning skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed as their team director on Wednesday.
Set for a fresh position with the Gladiators, the former Pakistan captain who was dismissed by the team is among the most prominent names on the list of unpicked at the Players draft.
Following a poor performance in the player draft, the reports indicated Sarfaraz might replace Shane Watson of Australia as the Gladiators since the latter chose to withdraw owing to schedule issues with other professional obligations.
But the 37-year-old has since been lured in by the franchise as team director.
Franchise owner Nadeem Omer made the announcement during an earlier today sponsor signing event.
Omar also hoped the mix of team director Sarfaraz and head coach Moin Khan would benefit the franchise.
“Today I would want to introduce Sarfaraz as Team Director of Quetta Gladiators,” Omar remarked.
“Sarfaraz led QG really brilliantly as a captain; I trust he will do the same as Director too. Moin Khan as Head Coach and Sarfaraz as Team Director would be fantastic for us, he said.
It is relevant to note that Sarfaraz Ahmed first became involved with Quetta Gladiators when the league started in 2016 and over time he became a major player guiding the team to its first and only PSL championship in 2019.
He appeared 86 times for the club, averaging 29.32 and scoring 1525 runs with seven half-centuries.
But the 2023 season saw Rilee Rossouw of South Africa replace Sarfaraz as the team captain, therefore ending his long leadership career with the franchise.
