According to Yahoo Sports, Pat Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs player Patrick Mahomes, was taken into custody by Tyler, Texas, police on Saturday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated (DWI). A charge of “driving while intoxicated, third or more” was brought against the apprehended individual. The jail records also include two past DWI offenses, one from 2012 and one from 2018. Details surrounding his detention on Saturday were immediately unclear.

But according to the Kansas City Star, Mahomes Sr. admitted guilt to his 2018 DWI offense and received a 40-day jail sentence. Weekends were used to serve the sentence for the former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher between 2019 and 2020.

Days before his son Patrick is supposed to lead the Chiefs’ offense against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, the arrest takes place. The 28-year-old quarterback is vying for both his third MVP award and his third Super Bowl ring.

Mahomes Sr., a retired professional athlete, pitched for the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers. Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates during his 11 seasons in Major League Baseball (1992–2003).

Additionally, he pitched for the Yokohama BayStars in 1998 and Nippon Professional Baseball in 1997 during his two seasons there. 2009 saw him play for the last time with the independent American Association’s Grand Prairie AirHogs.
