PCB fires management: Shaheen ‘misbehaving’ with coaches

Star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was seen misbehaving with coaches and management staff, sources claimed Geo News on Wednesday, following Pakistan’s early withdrawal from the T20 World Cup 2024. Managers, who are responsible for team discipline, are being investigated for not punishing the left-arm pacer despite Shaheen’s attitude.

After the team’s poor performance and early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024, the board fired Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee. Razzaq served on both the men’s and women’s selection committees, while Wahab represented the men’s seven-member body after being fired earlier this year. The PCB announced today that it informed the duo of their services being discontinued.

With senior manager Wahab gone, the board fired team manager Mansoor Rana. Sources say Wahab and Razzaq gave undue favors to specific players, and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi fired them after the probe. The players Wahab and Razzaq endorsed didn’t perform and were opposed by other selection committee members.

Players with lobbies and their benefits are also being investigated by the board. Sources say the team’s coaches have protested to the PCB chairman about players’ indifference and disciplinary infractions on recent tours.

Lamenting that players talk against each other, coaches have also addressed players’ families and their ability to focus on the game. Wahab ditches pressuring selection committee. After the board confirmed his removal, Wahab denied pressuring the selection committee.
