On Sunday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) denied a media rumor that Jason Gillespie would be replaced as red-ball coach. A PCB spokesperson said Gillespie, interim white-ball head coach, would be the red-ball coach for the two-Test series against South Africa, as announced. qib Javed across all formats, however the PCB denies this. The cricket board is considering Javed for the post, with the next white-ball series against Zimbabwe likely being his first task as Pakistan head coach.
Sources said a decision is likely shortly due to the white-ball team’s busy schedule, which begins with three ODIs and three T20Is against Zimbabwe from 24 November to December 5. Javed led the pack due to his coaching expertise and success with domestic and franchise clubs.
The move followed Gary Kirsten’s abrupt resignation days before the team’s trip to Australia. Gillespie was hired interimly by the PCB for the Australia tour. Gillespie denied his interest in the full-time post, quelling the rumors.
