Pakistan’s Noman Ali is an ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominee

Pakistan left-arm spinner Noman Ali has been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October 2024. The ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominees include three standout wicket-takers from the ICC World Test Championship last month. Noman was nominated because his wicket-taking on home soil helped Pakistan beat England.

The 38-year-old spinner returned to Test play for Pakistan in October and clinched his maiden ICC Men’s Player of the Month nomination with 20 wickets at 13.85 in two Tests against England in Multan and Rawalpindi.

Noman, along with Sajid Khan, was a consistent menace on spinning surfaces. He took eight for 46 and six for 42 in the second innings of both matches to inspire the hosts to a dramatic comeback victory. He also batted well, including a 45-run knock in the first innings of the last Test.

Mitchell Santner, who bowled New Zealand to victory in the second Test against India at Pune, joins him in October. In the second and final Test triumph over India in Pune, Santner helped New Zealand win a historic series despite only playing one match in the month.

After their Bengaluru success, the left-arm spinner was drafted into the team and ripped through the Indian batting lineup in the first innings, using pace variations and a good surface to achieve a best Test total of seven for 53. Santner again took six for 104 as India chased a 359-run mark to win by 113 runs and won their first series in India.

The month saw Kagiso Rabada retake the top slot in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings and receive his latest nomination following South Africa’s series win in Bangladesh. The South African seamer is nominated for Men’s Player of the Month after further impressive performances in October. He hopes to become the third South African to win.

A match-winning six for 46 in the second innings saw the 29-year-old take his 300th Test wicket and match stats of nine for 72 in the opening Test. An independent ICC Voting Academy and fans worldwide will vote to determine the winners next week.
