Starting Tuesday at 5pm PKT at Boland Park in Paarl, Pakistan and South Africa will play a crucial three-match ODI series.
The second and third matches of the series will be contested at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town and The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on 17 and 19 December.
After the third T20I was washed out on 14 December, South Africa won the series 2-0. The ODI series is important for both teams as they prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan in February and March 2025.
Pakistan has added bowler Naseem Shah, opening batsman Abdullah Shafique, and top-order batter Kamran Ghulam, as well as wrist-spinner Sufyan Moqim and Usman Khan for their first ODI appearances. This will be Mohammad Rizwan’s third ODI series as captain, after triumphs over Australia and Zimbabwe.
Pakistan defeated South Africa 2-1 in their previous 50-over series in April 2021.
Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan said, “This is a vital ODI series in our preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy and with Allah’s help we will look to emulate our performances from the ODI series against Australia”.
We didn’t win the T20I series, but I’m proud of our players’ performances, especially Saim’s batting in both games. He stated that our batting, pace, and spin stocks can challenge South Africa and win the series with God’s guidance.
