Olympic champion promised what?
After struggling as an athlete, Arshad Nadeem has become famous and wealthy. Famous people promised to treat him generously hours after he broke the men’s javelin Olympic record in Paris 2024. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced Rs100 million for Nadeem, stating that by winning the gold medal, he gave the nation a gift on Independence Day.
According to Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Nadeem will receive Rs50 million for winning the Paris Olympics javelin throw gold medal. Karachi mayor announced the opening of a sports academy named after the Pakistani javelin thrower. Added, “Arshad Nadeem is a national hero and we are proud of our heroes.” Pakistan’s 40-year Olympic gold medal drought ended with the javelin thrower’s victory, despite his struggles to secure the necessary facilities, equipment, and training. His javelin throw of 92.97 metres shattered the Olympic record.
The National Assembly unanimously recommended the government give the gold medalist the highest civil award. NA Opposition Leader Omar Ayub says he should be welcomed home with a big welcome. On Friday, the Senate announced a banquet “in the honour of his making the nation proud” to celebrate Nadeem’s gold award. Deputy Chairman Syedaal Khan Nasar said the great son of the soil would receive rewards. However, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori will grant him Rs2 million.
For winning gold for Pakistan, singer Ali Zafar announced Rs1 million for the athlete. He requested that the government and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif honour him and create a sports academy in his name. “If our athletes and sportsmen get the support they deserve, we can win 10 golds a year,” he remarked. Sindh Government Spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh said Nadeem will receive a gold crown at the people’s request. He also said the Sukkur sports facility under development will be named after Nadeem to celebrate his feat.
