Martinez on What Impresses Him About Ronaldo

The national team head coach of Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, Roberto Martinez, believes his team captain is an “example to his teammates.”

The Portugal boss was impressed, as he praised the Al Nassr striker’s commitment to international football at age 39 as an example to his teammates. Martinez’s comments came as hundreds of people descended on St Mirren Park – also known as the SMiSA Stadium – in Paisley to try and catch a glimpse of Ronaldo.

Meanwhile, in the stadium, the Portuguese football contingent started gearing up for their pre-match training in the build-up to the Nations League match against Scotland on Tuesday. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was often pilloried after failing to find the net as Portugal bowed out of Euro 2024 to France in the quarterfinals stage.

Martinez has, however, kept on selecting him for Ronaldo, who scored his 133rd international goal in Saturday’s 3-1 Nations League win over Poland in Warsaw.

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus star was starting that match, but Martinez has assured his fans present he would be involved against Scotland.

Portugal have won all three of their games in Nations League Group A1 and three more points in Glasgow will edge them to the brink of securing qualification for March’s quarter-finals.
