Markram Steadies South Africa’s Charge

Right-handed opener Aiden Markram struck an unbeaten half-century to put South Africa in touch at lunch on the second day of the inaugural Test against Pakistan. Markram and Bavuma’s careful stand tormented Pakistan’s bowlers as South Africa responded to their 211.

The pair added 70 runs for the fourth wicket when Aamir Jamal dismissed the South African skipper, who scored 31 runs. Markram then scored 42 runs for the fifth wicket with David Bedingham in another crucial partnership for the hosts.

The middle-order dominated with 30 off 33 deliveries before falling to Naseem Shah. Aiden Markram was undefeated on 81 as South Africa reached 180/5 in 46 overs with two more runs before lunch.
