Waugh has chosen his first five players for a World T20I XI, joining a lengthy list of previous greats as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup approaches. Waugh has selected players from five different teams for his five-person squad: Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, England, and Australia.

In addition to Shaheen, the roster also features Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah, Afghan batsman Rashid Khan, English batsman Jos Buttler, and Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell. To aid with his recovery from a knee injury, renowned pacer Shaheen has begun bowling while having treatment in London.

The young player posted a video of himself practising in London to appease his supporters, who have been waiting for him to return to the pitch since his injury. Recent scans and reports indicate that the bowler should rest for four to six weeks after suffering a Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) injury while fielding in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle in July.

Seeing as how the tri-nation series in New Zealand and the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia are slated for October and November, his return is anticipated.

“He is a left-arm, so that’s another point of difference. He can swing the ball back into the right-hander, he’s quick as well, so I’ve got him number two,” Waugh said.
