Karachi Press Club announces life membership for Arshad Nadeem
On Friday, Karachi Press Club (KPC) Secretary Shoaib Ahmed announced that Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem will receive life membership. KPC President Saeed Sarbazi remarked “Arshad Nadeem is a national hero whose extraordinary accomplishment has inspired millions of Pakistanis.” He added the javelin thrower’s win showed our nation and athletes’ tenacity. He said the KPC was honoured to honour such an outstanding person.
In a thrilling final on Thursday, Nadeem set an Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters and won a gold medal for Pakistan after 40 years. A news release said the KPC’s governing body unanimously awarded the club’s “highest honour” to Nadeem, who shattered the Olympic record in men’s javelin to become Pakistan’s first individual gold medallist at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
“Nadeem’s win changed Pakistani sports. He made us a global sports power. Our life membership is a little mark of our gratitude for his great service, added Ahmed. The news announcement stated that Nadeem will get life membership in a KPC event to be announced later. Nadeem joins cricketers Imran Khan and Javed Miandad, squash star Jahangir Khan, and former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfraz Ahmed as life members of the club. The KPC has recently awarded life membership to cricket legends Vivian Richard and Darren Sammy for revitalising Pakistani international cricket.
