Injury Coetzee for South Africa’s Test series against West Indies
South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee will miss the Test series against the West Indies due to a side strain. He will be replaced by uncapped Test player Migael Pretorius, who has 64 first-class games. He injured his left side in Major League Cricket. Texas Super Kings player Coetzee returned home for medical evaluations. Cricket South Africa confirmed on Thursday that he was unfit for the August 7 Test series.
Pretorius last appeared for South Africa in a T20I series against Pakistan in March 2021, however he was not capped. In December 2020, he was called for a Test series in Sri Lanka, but his shoulder injury prevented him from playing. In 64 first-class matches, Pretorius, 29, has 188 wickets at 27.50. He leads Somerset’s English County Championship wicket-taking with 23. South Africa play the first Test in Port-of-Spain and the second in Providence. From August 24-28, three T20Is follow.
