West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein sent an emotional message after leading the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20I bowling rankings for the first time in his career.
The left-arm orthodox spinner replaced England’s Adil Rashid as he leaped positions, as per the rankings revealed this week.
In reference to this, the 31-year-old jotted down an emotional statement on his Instagram profile, which he shared alongside a collection of his wickets in the shortest format.
“I’m not usually one to post stats, but this one is special. Who would have guessed, huh? Hosein wrote that the Laventille boy from the hood could be world number one.
“Let this serve as a reminder that I did it, no matter what is said or how long I stay at this number. That I’m #1,” he said.
However, his West Indies partner and wicketkeeper batsman Nicholas Pooran joked that the top-ranked bowler owed him a Christmas present.
“You owe me a Christmas present for all those stumpings,” Pooran wrote on Hosein’s post.
After debuting in 2021, Hosein has taken 48 wickets in 55 T20I matches for the West Indies. Hosein took three wickets in the latter two matches of the three-match T20I series after scoring 2/13 in the first encounter.
