Newly appointed Pakistan white-ball cricket team head coach Aqib Javed discussed ace batter Babar Azam’s T20I selection. The former skipper, who has been struggling in all formats, scored 47 runs at 15.66 and 142.42 in the three-match T20I series against Australia.
At a Wednesday media briefing in Lahore, Aqib was asked about Babar for T20Is. Seniors like Babar and Rizwan are valuable. He stated they performed for Pakistan over time.
Basit Ali had predicted that Babar’s third T20I against Australia would be his last in the format since Aqib, one of the most vociferous critics of star batters, had taken over the white-ball side.
“As long as Aqib Javed is the head coach, this may be Babar Azam’s last T20 match,” Basit told a local TV station.
“I am stating the obvious. Your top batsman averages 14 runs in three matches. He wondered what kind of batsman gets out before the eighth over.
According to Aqib, “every person has its own opinion but our focus is not to target any individual” and he praised Babar’s years of service to the squad.
“Everyone saw Babar play the last three ODIs. As a coach or selector, it’s not about personal preference. The head coach said you want to develop Pakistan cricket.
We worked hard for Pakistan cricket, not individuals. Any series you won against England was won by Pakistan cricket “Aqib told reporters.
“Our sole goal is to improve Pakistan cricket’s image and results,” he said.
